    Lactation Consultations

Breastfeeding is one of the best things mothers can do for their babies, but it doesn't always come naturally or go smoothly for every mother and baby. One of the most important things to know before starting the breastfeeding adventure is to know that there is support available whenever a challenge may arise.

As a Board Certified Lactation Consultant, I offer home visits for new moms who may be experiencing a challenge, or simply have a few questions about breastfeeding.

    *Assistance and Guidance with:

    ~ Positioning and latch

    ~Sore nipples

~Milk supply (too much or too little)

    ~Breast infection, plugged ducts, yeast

    ~Baby's weight gain

    ~ Going back to work

    ~Using a breast pump

*Referrals to other resources if necessary

    Consults include:

    •  Review of maternal and infant history & consent form

    •  Discussion of main concerns and goals

    •  Weighing baby and observation of feeding

    •  Developing a plan of care for mom and baby

    •  A follow-up phone call or visit 48-72 hours later

    Benefits of Home Visit Consults:

    •  Convenient! You don't have to pack up your bundle of joy and go anywhere.

    •  Comfortable. Consult takes place in your natural environment with your chair, bed, pillows, etc. Kara can also suggest any improvements to your "nursing station" based on what she sees during the consult.

    •  Calming. There will be no sense of rushing to make an appointment on time, find a parking spot, or leave before the next person arrives. Kara's presence is also often regarded as very calming in and of itself.

    Fees for Services

    •  $75 for Initial Visit, plus unlimited phone and email support

(Initial visits are typically 90-120 minutes.)

    •  $50 for additional follow-up visits
